Ontario Environment Network
Forest Caucus Meeting
April 19 - 21, North Bay

Ontario’s forests are our future – and the forest’s future is the subject of vigorous debate as the Ministry of Natural Resource readies itself for the first major review of its forest management practices. Join the debate and share strategies and conversation about Ontario’s forest and its future.

Friday Sessions

Registration opens at 6 p.m.
8 p.m. Screening of NFB production  “L'Erreur boréale - Forest Alert”

Saturday Sessions

Roads, roads, roads
The driving force in forest fragmentation, a growing network for industrial roads play cookie cutter on the forested landscape: the Forest Caucus' opening workshop and strategy session will take a hard look at roads, their impacts and possible responses from the environmental perspective.

Changing Rules
Morning and afternoon sessions will include a crash course on the Class Environmental Assessment of Timber Management on Crown Lands in Ontario - the rule maker for forestry operations on public lands - and a panel discussion with other sectors on where the Timber EA renewal exercise is headed, and whether we want to go there.

Talking Tenure
Most forestry operations happen on Crown Land in Ontario, but an increasingly smaller number of forestry companies have control over most of the land base through licensing arrangements. An opening discussion on tenure reform will identify key issues and challenges and set the stage for future work.

Sunday Sessions

Campaign & Action Forum
Organizations active in forest issues around Ontario will share news and the strategies they are employing in campaigns for protected areas, improved forestry and forest policy reform.
